Prof. Gabriele Costantino

Prof. Gabriele Costantino is Scientific Coordinator of the INTEGRATE ETN.

Gabriele Costantino studied Chemistry at University of Perugia (Italy) and received his degree there in 1992. From 1992 to 1993, he performed research at the Dipartimento di Chimica e Tecnologia del Farmaco at the Univesity of Perugia, where he was appointed research assistant in 1994 and associate professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 1998. Since January 2007, he has been full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at University of Parma.

During his career, Gabriele has been visiting scientist at Searle R&D (Skokie, IL, USA) and at the Departmento de Quimica Organica of University of Barcelona (Spain). Gabriele has been Visiting Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of Goethe University in Frankfurt AM (Germany)

In 2003, Gabriele was awarded the Farmaindustria/SCI prize as best young researcher in medicinal chemistry, and the XVI Friederich Merz Fellowship for his research on molecular modeling of glutamate receptors.

Gabriele has also served as Scientific Secretary of the European School of Medicinal Chemistry (2001-2008)

He is currently Editor of MedChemWatch, the official newsletter of the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry

Gabriele is also currently Vice-President and Treasurer of the Scientific Committee of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry of the Società Chimica Italiana.

Author of more than 110 scientific papers, Gabriele's research is particularly focused on the design and synthesis of antiinfective agents and modulators of the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan metabolism.
